Oohh Shii.....

Source: No cursing

Since a couple of weeks ago, when Olivia dropped something on the floor, she would say "Ooohhh Shiii...."

I freaked out, she is cursing...where did she learn the word?? So, now whenever something dropped, the 'conversation' would go like this:

Olivia : Ooohh shii....

Me: Uh oh, oops....(trying to get her to change)

Olivia: Ooohh shii....

Me: ......................

At least she is using it in context. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she is trying to say something else and her pronunciation is just not clear......*wishful thinking*

Artwork III

It's been a while since Olivia came home with her artwork but the other day, her teacher sent home a bunch.

O for Olivia.

These are quite abstract.

Do I have a little Picasso here??

Prescription eyeglasses

I need to get a new prescription glasses. After the birth of our baby, I find that my eyesight has deteriorated and the last time I had my glasses done was in 2005. Prescription glasses can be expensive depending on the what type of lenses you need.

I was excited when I found Zenni Optical: Sell Rx Glasses $8 with case! Zenni Optical is an online prescription glasses service. They have a huge selection of stylish frames with single vision lens, bifocal and progressive lenses.

All you need is your prescription. I’m going to check them out.

Easy come easy go

I knew it was too good to be true. Nine days after my page rank soared from 0 to 2, it went back to 0!

I was in the middle of submitting a post on Payperpost when the message said my blog is not qualified for the post. So, in about 15 minutes, my page rank dived to zilch.

Oh well, it was as good as it last.

Hotel reservation

Before we had the baby, we used to go for vacation every year outside of the US. Since having the baby, we stopped going.

I have always wanted to visit Italy and this year, I think we will be going there. The places I would like to visit in Italy is Rome, Venice and Milan.

I have to really plan for this trip and look for hotels online with discounted price and came across this site for hotels in Italy.

In Rome, I would like to visit the Colosseum and the Vatican. For Rome hotels , I'm going to look into staying in a quaint neighborhood.

I have always wanted to go a gondola ride and now I would get a chance in Venice. For hotels in Venice, I think I want to stay near St. Mark's Basilica, another attraction that I would like to go.

It would be interesting to go to Milan, one of the fashion capital of the world. Milan hotels are abundant and cheap.

What is it about the weather....

I have noticed that Americans are very preoccupied with the weather. If there is a snow storm coming, all the news channel would set up a storm center to bring us the latest progress.

There is always a big to do whether it is a winter storm or a rain storm. Being a meteorologist is actually a profession here!

Source: Here

The weather is also a conversation topic if you're in an elevator with a neighbor you hardly know and feel awkward with the silence.

I always say to hubby, I don't know why Americans are so interested in the weather. In Malaysia, nobody cares about the weather. He said, that is because in Malaysia, it is either hot and humid or rainy.

Well, that's true.

Miss Independence

I believe I have a little Miss Independence on my hands. About 2 weeks ago, Olivia wouldn’t eat her lunch or dinner unless I give her a spoon so that she can feed herself.

She is actually pretty good at it as she manages to dip the spoon into the bowl and put the food in her mouth. Check out the photos below. *Her eyes were closed due to the camera flash.*

Apart from feeding herself, Olivia would also try to dress herself. Well, sometimes she put her leg in one of the shirt sleeves….LOL.

video

Here, she was so proud of herself after succeeding in putting one leg through the pants.

In addition, the bag is made of genuine leather and also very stylish.

Water bottle from 2004

"What's so special about this water bottle" you asked. Well, there is nothing special about it but why do I still have this bottle?

Hubby and I went to Paris and the Loire Valley for a vacation in Oct 2004. Visiting Paris was my dream vacation ever since I took up French language lessons in Malaysia. After spending 5 days in Paris and 3 days in the Loire Valley, it's finally time to go home.

On the way to the airport, we stopped at a rest stop and I got myself a bottle of water. After we got home, I just kept reusing the bottle, filing it with boiled water. *yup, I boiled my drinking water, a habit from Malaysia*

Besides, I like the square shape of the bottle. Anyway, the other night, hubby asked, "You still have this bottle?" I was like "OMG, this bottle is from 2004!!"

I just read a report the other day saying do not reuse the plastic water bottles because multiple use could breakdown the chemical used to make the bottles and leached it into the water.....I guess I just shortened my life span.

The bottle is in the garbage.

Woo Hoo...I have a page rank!

After reading Beachlover's post about how she discovered her page rank has gone up and thus, getting a lot of opportunities to write more paid post, I decided to check into mine.

I had just logged into PayPerPost last night and there was no post for me to write....zilch, zero, nada.....

So, just an hour ago, I checked again and oh my goodness....my page rank is 2!! I have 2 pages of opportunity to write, more than I could imagine.

I would like to thank Puteri for suggesting that I get my own domain, since I write paid post, and it could potentially increase my page rank and it did!

I confess, I am a junkie

Who introduced me to baking??!! Since the first time I tried making muffins, I couldn't stop myself. I kept looking for different types of muffins to make.

I made banana chocolate chip muffins - recipe here. This muffin is hubby's favourite.

Then, yesterday, I made corn muffin, from scratch. These are soooo good toasted with a little margarine. Olivia likes them too, maybe because they are sweet....

One more milestone

When Olivia crawled at 9 months, I thought she would walk sooner rather than later. Well, she didn't take her own first steps until she was 13 months. At first, she was standing up on her own and taking only 2 - 4 steps.

Now, at 14 months, she can walk a longer distance before falling to the floor, but she still crawls most of the time.

Take a look at her cute walk. She walked towards me, took her 'necklace' and put it around her neck, then walked back to the computer.

Asian hair

When I first moved to the US, I would wait until my yearly trip back to Penang to get my hair cut. Can you imagine that?? This is because of the stereotype that Westerners do not know how to cut Asian hair, which is not entirely untrue. Asian hair has a different texture than Western hair and certain hair style that looks great on Western hair just does not work on Asian hair.

After 2 years, I finally got the courage to try a hair salon where we used to live and thankfully, the hairdresser, who is from South America, did a good job on my hair. I went to him for nearly 4 years, then we moved to the suburbs.

Every time I need a hair cut, I would drive 45 minutes to go to my old hairdresser, just because I do not know which salon to go to, in my new neighborhood. *silly* So I decided that it's time to cut the cord and find a hairdresser here where I live.

My hair is getting so long and shapeless that I begin to look like cousin IT. The fringe of my hair looked like this!

This past Sunday, I went to a hair salon at a shopping center 5 minutes from home and came out looking like this.

Well, at least the hair style looked like that......hehe.

Do they pee?

Each year, on New Year’s Eve, an average of 750,000 revelers gathers at New York’s Time Square to watch the ball drop. Countdown at Times Square is a big event.

Source: Countdown Entertainment LLC

People start taking their spot as early as 4pm and remain there till midnight. You can’t leave the spot, else you will lose it. I have always wondered how they managed the 8 hours in the freaking cold.

I mean you can bring food and water but what if you have to pee? Hold it in? You have to pee at least once in those 8 hours, right…..hhhmmm…..

Bbbbbrrrrr......cccccccooold

It was so cccccoooold yesterday. The highest temperature was 25F, that was -3C! When you go outside, the cold stings your skin. It's like walking in a big freezer.

So far, it is the coldest day this winter and winter just started. We have 3 more months to go! Please give me strength to get through this winter. I hate the cold and after living in the tropical weather for 30 years, I'll take warm weather any time.

Zucchini Parmesan bread

I had mentioned in my earlier post that I wanted to try my new loaf pan by making Zucchini Parmesan bread. I was quite nervous because this is the first time I'm making some kind of bread.

I subscribed to a monthly food magazine and first saw the recipe in the Sept 2005 issue and bookmarked it. Well, a little over 2 years later, I am finally ready.

So, over the Christmas weekend, I embarked on my little adventure. Here is the mixture in the loaf pan.

This is the finished product.

The big question : Is it GOOD?

Hubby and I were not sure since neither of us had tasted a zucchini parmesan bread before.....haha....but we liked the flavor. Toast it or spread some ricotta cheese on it, and you're in heaven.

Piano lessons

I took piano lessons since I was six years old and passed Grade 8 of the piano exam. Grade 8 is the highest level before going for a Diploma in music. Since I started working and moved to the US, I have never played again. My piano is still sitting in my parents’ house in Malaysia.

Recently, I had wanted to resume playing the piano. I still remember how to play and just needed a refresher course. I was excited when I received this newsletter about Piano lessons & piano chords. The website offers free piano lessons online and there are also piano courses available on DVD and CD.

If you are interested in learning how to play piano, check out this website.
