Sesame Place....here we come!

We are taking Olivia to Sesame Place located in Langhorne, PA for a few days. It is a theme park designed for younger kids.

There are dry fun attraction (rides and stuff) and wet fun attraction (water park). There are also shows and parade featuring the characters from Sesame Street. The kids get to meet Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Oscar, Ernie and other characters.

It is about 90 minutes away from NYC. It will probably take us 2-3 hrs depending on traffic. Olivia is very excited and we are excited too. We know she will love it!

See you in a few days and I'll come back with lots of photos.

1st Harvest

I am very excited. I got my first harvest from the vegetable garden a few days ago - string beans!

I let Olivia helped me picked the string beans off the plants. Here she is with the harvest.

The more you picked the string beans, the more they grow. So I think we'll be eating string beans for quite a while. Hubby does not like string beans but I told him to eat them or else....hehe.

Other than stir fry, I don't know what other ways to cook them. Any ideas?

What I like about the US of A

After living here for almost 8 years, I have to say there are some things that I like about the US of A.

1. An abundant of seasonal fresh fruits e.g. cherries, blueberries, peaches, apricots, strawberries, grapes etc. They are inexpensive when in season.

Sweet cherries.

Yummy bluberries.

2. Customer service. You can just make a phone call to correct a problem in your bill, buy car insurance, inquire or dispute a credit card charge, open a bank account; without having to go to a brick and mortar office. Yes, yes…sometimes you have to wait and listen to the incessant songs but most of the time, the problem will get resolved.

3. You can say anything you want (Freedom of speech). You can stand in front of the White House and say bad things about the President. You won’t be thrown in jail like the ISA in Malaysia. In fact, a lot of the stand up comedians makes fun of the presidents all the time.

4. You can be as successful as you want, as long as you work hard and persevere. Hey, we have an African American president, don’t we?

Birthday party at the Long Island Children's Museum

Olivia was invited to her classmate’s 3 year old birthday party at the Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM). I have not been to the museum before so I was actually looking forward to it.

LICM is a hands on museum and great for the kids. My in-laws take Olivia here sometimes when they babysit and she simply loves it. She loves the bubble room and the music room.

When all the guests have arrived, we went into the bubble room. Here, the kids experimented with equipment that generates giant bubbles.

Then, Olivia stood on a platform and got surrounded by a GIANT bubble! Not sure if you could see the bubble around her.

After that, we moved on to the arts and crafts room where the kids did painting with shaped sponge and brushes.

Then, off to ToTSpot where there is a slide, a make believe train, a tractor etc. You can also shop for food and put them through an assembly line. After that, it’s pizza and cake time. All Olivia wanted was cake. She kept saying “I want cake. I want cake.”

After cake, she was pestering me to take her to the music room. There are musical instruments to play in the room and in one area, each button you press on the console will generate a kaleidoscope of colors. Pretty cool.

Olivia didn’t want to leave and I had to bribe her just to get her out of the museum. All in all, we had FUN.

I'm doing the.....

HAPPY DANCE!!

happy dance Pictures, Images and Photos

Why, you asked? Well.....I'm proud to annouce that Olivia is completely toilet trained!!! She wears underwear all day now except during nap and night time.

Over the 4 day weekend during Independence Day, she was home and in underwear all the time. So, I took a risk and sent her to daycare in undies on Monday. Daycare rule is: if they had accidents in their undies 2 times, they have to be put in diaper/pull ups. (I'm actually unhappy with this fact because they kept saying they support potty training but how is that supporting if the tolerance rate is only 2 times)

Anyway, I was expecting the worst when I went to pick her up Monday evening but to my delightful surprise, she only had one accident!! So, I continue to send her in undies to daycare and so far she only had one accident each day.

I returned my unopened pack of jumbo diapers yesterday to BabiesRUs and bought a portable potty. Now, instead of running around with diapers, I will run around with a portable potty...lol.

I understand that she will have accidents here and there but this is a major milestone. I hope she keeps it up.

My Vegetable Garden

This year, I do not have much motivation to plant anything. I am dealing with uncertainties in my employment and it has paralyzed me. I know I shouldn’t let it affect me that much but it did.

Anyway, about a month ago, my father-in-law planted some assorted vegetables for me: tomatoes (cherry & beefsteak), green bean, cucumber and eggplant. They are growing pretty well.

The first 2 rows are green beans. Green beans are easy to grow. The 3 plants at the back with the cage are the tomatoes. Next to the green beans are 2 short tiny plants, those are eggplants.

Closer look of the green beans.

Remember the plant that popped out of the soil 2 months ago and I have no idea what it was, well, another one grew behind it and I'm pretty sure they are potato plants. Looks like I'm going to harvest quite a bit of potatoes soon.

This Old Bag

This was Olivia’s daycare bag since her first day at daycare, at 3 months old. I like it because it has 2 compartments. One compartment is insulated, so I can put in her food and yogurt. I can put her water and other stuff that does not need to stay cool in the other regular compartment.

After 2 years of daily use, the bag is ripped on the inside and it’s time to make a change. I search for a long time for a similar bag which has the insulated compartment but could not find one. I finally bought a sturdy canvas bag that is big enough to put all her stuff in.

However, the old bag is still in the house. It’s sitting on top of the refrigerator collecting dust. I could not seem to get rid of it. Sentimental….perhaps.
